PlayStation 4 has drummed up an impressive 73.6 million sales worldwide as of December 31 2017, Sony announced overnight.
The electronics behemoth confirmed that it moved 5.9 million PS4s during the 2017 holiday period, which is down on the previous year when it managed to shift 6.2 million hardware units.
On the software front, the console giant flogged a not-too-shabby 55.9 million PS4 digital and physical games during the same period, bringing total game sales on the system to an eye-watering 645 million.
‘Thanks to the continued support from our fans across the globe, we are honored to announce remarkable sales during the holiday season,’ beamed Sony Interactive Entertainment Big Wig, John Kodera (via GameSpot). ‘PlayStation Network continues to demonstrate spectacular growth, with the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers surpassing 31.5 million, and PS Store recording its largest-ever monthly sales of content in December 2017.’
‘I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our community and our partners for helping us achieve such phenomenal milestones. We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play.’
Sony’s flagship games console launched five years ago this November and is rapidly closing in on lifetime sales of its predecessor, which moved just over 80 million units worldwide.
